TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa football team had its second full scrimmage of preseason camp Friday night at H.A. Chapman Stadium. It was Tulsa's defense that had the upper-hand during the evening session.
"Our defense played really well. They gave up a couple of big things, but really bowed their neck in the red zone, made some stops and created turnovers. They got the offense in some long yardage situations, which is what you want to do as a defense. They got off the field when they needed to get off the field. I thought they played really well," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.
"Offensively, we were not very good today. We'll go in and watch the tape and get a better evaluation of what we're doing, and make sure we have guys in right spots. The good thing is you have 13 days left, the bad thing is you have 13 days," added Montgomery.
"We always want to be give-and-take. The defense had a great day today," said Montgomery. "Offensively we didn't play very well. We have to get better. We shot ourselves in the foot with some penalties, and some of that is inexperienced things. When you're down in the red zone you have to be smart with the football. Overall we just have to do a better job of understanding what's going on in the football game."
On the quarterbacks, Montgomery commented, "honestly, I didn't think any of them played very well. Today was probably the worst day they've had since they've been in fall camp. For them, they still have a lot of room to grow. Luckily we have 13 days left."
Tulsa will be back on the practice field Saturday afternoon.
