Tulsa rowing alumna Jennifer Casson will represent Canada as a member of the Lightweight 4x at the 2017 World Championships, which will be held September 24-October 1 in Sarasota, Fla.
Casson recently raced the Canadian Lightweight 2x to a sixth-place mark at the Under 23 Worlds in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
A TU graduate in May of 2017, Casson was a member of the second-place Varsity 8+ at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship, as well as the Lightweight 8+ at the 2017 IRA National Championship that finished second in the Petite Final. She was also a member of the Lightweight 8+ that captured a fourth-place mark at the Knecht Cup and earned a program-best No. 4 national ranking in the USRowing Collegiate Poll in 2017. Casson was selected to The American all-conference first team as a junior and senior, was a member of the Varsity 8+ that was named The American Boat of the Week one time as both a sophomore and junior, and was tabbed to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All Region 4 first team as a senior and second team as a sophomore.
"Our whole team is excited at the success of Jenny," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "I am proud of her and of the fact that her hard work is paying off on the Worlds stage. One of the things we talked about when I recruited her to TU was her dream of wearing the Maple Leaf one day and it's fantastic to see her reach her goals. We'll all be watching this fall when she goes to the line for Canada. Luckily her and Michelle Sechser, who is another TU alumna and will race in the US Lightweight 2x, are in different events. Tulsa Rowing will have two alumnae at Worlds, which is very exciting."
