Cross Country To Open 2017 Season On Friday

8/30/2017 2:37:00 PM | Cross Country

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa cross country teams will open the 2017 season on Friday morning at the Cowboy Preview, which will be run at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater.

The day will start with the women's 3K run at 8 a.m., followed by the men's 5K race. Arkansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Golden Hurricane at the meet.

The TU men's squad is ranked No. 20 in the preseason edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches' Poll. The Hurricane also received the No. 4 preseason ranking in the Midwest Region from the USTFCCCA.

The men's team will be tasked with replacing conference and regional champion Luke Traynor, but returns much of its core from a group that won the program's seventh consecutive conference title and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with a second-place showing at the NCAA Midwest Regional last fall.

That group is led by seniors Ben Preisner, Henry Pearce and Adam Roderique, who each finished in the top five of last season's conference race with Traynor, along with juniors Isaac Dobos and Austin Del Rosso. All five runners earned all-conference recognition a season ago.

The women's squad must replace Clara Langley and Olivia Lopez, but will return seniors Stacie Taylor and Nicole Lee, in addition to sophomore Adrena Mazzei. Taylor, Lee and Mazzei all claimed all-conference honors with a top-15 finish at The American Championships last season.
