Providence, RI –– The University of Tulsa running back D'Angelo Brewer was named co-Offensive Player of the Week in the American Athletic Conference, the league announced on Monday. He shared the honor with SMU receiver Courtland Sutton.
Brewer turned in the best NCAA single-game rushing performance through two weeks of the season with 262 yards and 3 TDs on 38 attempts in a 66-42 win over Louisiana Saturday.
He had TD runs of 50 yards and two 1-yard runs, while his longest run of the day, a 60-yarder, put the Hurricane on the Louisiana 3-yard line with under one minute to play in halftime, leading to a TD and a 38-23 halftime lead.
Brewer's 262 yards was his second career 200+ rushing game and the 4th-best rushing performance in school history. With the performance, Brewer also moved from 9th to 4th place on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,695 career yards.
It's the second weekly American Athletic Conference award that Brewer has won in his career.
In addition, placekicker Redford Jones was named to The American's weekly honor roll.
Jones came into the season with 239 points, and needing 60 points to tie for the school's all-time scoring record.
After scoring 12 points on one field goal and 9 PATS against Louisiana, Jones is now only 42 points shy of tying the school record 299 points. Jones scored the first points of the game by tying his career-long with a 46-yard field goal, then added a PAT after each of Tulsa's nine touchdowns.
