Women’s Cross Country Wins Southern Stampede on Saturday

JOPLIN, Mo. — Senior Nicole Lee took fourth in the women's 5K to lead The University of Tulsa women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Southern Stampede on Saturday morning. The No. 21-ranked men's team placed 15th.

The TU women placed all five scorers among the top 17 finishers to register 39 points, to put the Golden Hurricane ahead of Dallas Baptist (119), Oklahoma Baptist (134), Wichita State (139) and Arkansas (194).

Lee crossed the finish line with a time of 17:29.87 for the second-fastest 5K of her career. She was just ahead of sophomore Ashley Barnes, who finished fifth at 17:31.99. Junior Alyssa Bolliger finished eighth at 17:38.97, while redshirt freshman Jenny O'Bryan finished 10th with a time of 17:39.97 and sophomore Reagan Hausmann rounded out the scoring at 17th place with a mark of 17:50.54.

Sophomores Amanda Heard and Avery Culpepper also competed and finished with times of 18:20.42 (42nd) and 18:42.68 (64th), respectively.

Redshirt freshman Reed Sahadaven led the TU men in the 8K race with a time of 26:07.62, while sophomore Bryan Corbaz clocked in at 26:29.03 for 72nd place. Junior Ellis Coon finished at 26:32.66 (78th), redshirt freshman had a time of 26:59.62 (111th) and senior Steven Salvano rounded out the scoring at 27:04.64 (116th).

In addition, sophomore Braydon Rennie (126th/27:13.27), redshirt freshman Archer Bennett (139th/27:25.64), junior Mark Middleton (160th/27:43.88) and August Bont (216th/29:13.91) all completed the 8K race at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

The Golden Hurricane will be back in action on Sept. 30 at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater.
