
Tulsa’s Samuelsson Places 2nd, Women Golfers 3rd at Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational

Manhattan, Kansas –– Tulsa junior Johanna Samuelsson turned in a career-best 2nd-place finish at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in leading the Golden Hurricane women golfers to a 3rd place performance in the second event of the fall season.
Samuelsson began the day in 4th place and moved up two spots with her best round of the tournament, a one-under par 71. She improved each of the three rounds by one stroke each day and finished with an even-par 216 total for the 54 holes.
As a team, Tulsa had a sub-300 round for the second time this week at the par-72 Colbert Hills Golf Course, shooting 299 on Tuesday to finish with an 899 score. The Hurricane was one stroke behind second-place Kansas, while Kansas State won the event with an overall score of 881.
Tulsa junior Olivia Jackson equaled her opening round score with a 73 on Tuesday and finished the tournament in 17th place with a total of 228.
Senior Nicole Marquardt and junior Anneke Strobach finished in a tie for 24th place with an identical total of 230. Strobach carded a final round score of 75, while Marquardt finished with a round of 80. Freshman Randi Romack placed 40th overall with a total of 237.
Sophomore Taylor Dobson, playing the event as an individual, finished in 30th place with a score of 233.
Tulsa will be back in action later this week at The Schooner Fall Classic, Saturday-Monday, Sept. 23-25, in Norman, Oklahoma.
