TU Falls in Four Sets Against Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Golden Hurricane took to the road for the first time in American Athletic Conference play, as it took on the Bearcats of Cincinnati. Emily Thorson tied a career-high 21 kills, but TU fell, 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-11, 25-21).

Cincinnati jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the first set. Tulsa managed to pull within two points, 14-12, but fell in the first set, 25-18. Emily Thorson led TU with four kills, while Rachael Moore and Emily Hubbard chipped in with two kills each. Ashton Anderson and Mariah Pardo each tallied four assists. Anderson led the team in the first set with six digs, while Taylor Horsfall added five.

With the score tied at 10-10 in the second, the Hurricane went on a 5-0 run and took a 15-10 lead. TU took the second set by a score of 25-18. Thorson posted seven kills to lead all attackers in the stanza. Pardo and Anderson recorded eight and seven assists, respectively. Horsfall scooped up six digs, while Hubbard and Anderson each had four.

Thorson paced TU with four kills. Anderson produced four assists. Horfall picked up four digs. The Bearcats took the third set, 25-11.

Horsfall picked up seven digs to lead all in the fourth set. Anderson led the team with five assists, while Pardo added four. Horsfall paved the way with six kills for the Golden Hurricane. Cincinnati took the fourth set, 25-21.

Carly Nolan led the Bearcats with 18 kills, while Jasmine Jones added 15 kills. Jade Tingelhoff had a match-high 47 assists. Abby Williams led Cincinnati with 19 digs.

As a team, the Bearcats had 59 kills, 53 assists and 75 digs.

The Golden Hurricane finished the match with 44 kills, 43 assists and 65 digs.

Thorson led all attackers with 21 kills. Anderson posted her first double-double of the season with 20 assists and 12 digs. Pardo was solid on the pass as she picked up 17 assists. Horsfall posted a match-high 22 digs.

With the loss, Tulsa falls to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in The American. The Golden Hurricane return to action Sunday, Oct. 1, at noon, as they travel to North Carolina for a matchup with the Pirates of ECU.
