STILLWATER, Okla. — Senior Ben Preisner finished fourth in the 8K race to lead the No. 22 Tulsa men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday morning. The TU women's squad finished sixth behind Ashley Barnes, who placed 19th.
Preisner, who finished his first race of the fall, crossed the line at 24:40.3 for his highest individual finish since he placed second at last season's American Athletic Conference Championship.
All five runners that scored finished in the top 45 for the Golden Hurricane. The trio of seniors Henry Pearce (25:35.0) and Adam Roderique (25:35.8) along with sophomore Adam Breaux (25:36.4) finished 28th-30th. Junior Ellis Coon rounded out the scoring in 44th place with a time of 26:10.1 to give Tulsa 135 points.
Senior Steven Salvano finished 47th (26:28.6), while Mark Middleton checked in at 51st (26:41.4). Meanwhile, sophomore Bryan Corbaz (27:18.8) and freshmen Reed Sahadaven (27:37.9), Archer Bennett (27:56.7) and Carter Bradford (28:31.5) also competed at the meet.
In the women's 6K race, Barnes led the way with her time of 21:45.5. She was followed by fellow sophomore Adrena Mazzei, who crossed the finish line in 24th at 21:56.3, and senior Nicole Lee's time of 22:06.9 to finish 31st. Freshman Caitlin Klopfer made her debut with a 32nd-place finish (22:07.8) and junior Alyssa Bolliger rounded out the scoring in 37th (22:18.7) to put all five TU runners in the top 40.
Sophomores Amanda Heard (22:40.4) and Avery Culpepper (23:38.2) finished 46th and 56th, respectively.
The teams will be back in action on Oct. 13 when they travel to Madison, Wisc., for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. That race will serve as the final tune-up before the American Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 28 in Philadelphia.
