Shug Dickson and Erika Wakefield both scored in double-digits as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 78-60 decision to #1 UConn on Thursday night at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn.  TU fell to 8-11 on the season and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Huskies moved to 17-0 overall and 6-0 in the league.

"Our kids hung in there kept fighting, and I am proud of our effort," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We were able to get good looks and hit shots in rhythm.  In the second half we slowed down and were more patient, playing a pace we could be more successful compared to the first half when we tried to play their speed."

Dickson led TU with 17 points, including five three-point baskets, while Wakefield added 13 points and was one assist shy of a double-double with nine.  Ebony Parker hit three treys to finish with nine points, while Crystal Polk added six.  Rebecca Lescay led the Hurricane with eight rebounds.

The Golden Hurricane scored the most points (60) against UConn in a league game this season, as the second-most was 49 points by both Memphis and #22 USF.

Tulsa also had the second-most three-point baskets against the Huskies this season with 11, only trailing DePaul with 12.  Dickson tied the most three-pointers made by an individual player with 5.

TU shot 40-percent from the field, 45-percent from three-point range and 100-percent (1-of-1 from the charity stripe, while UConn shot 44-percent from the field, 40-percent from behind the arc and 63-percent (12-of-19) from the free throw line.

The Golden Hurricane had a 16-15 lead in assists against the #2 team in the nation in assists in UConn, and a 5-4 lead in blocks.  The Huskies had a narrow 37-35 edge in rebounds and a 16-6 advantage in steals.

Tulsa owned a 9-6 lead at the 6:32 mark, but the Huskies went on a 12-0 run to take an 18-9 lead with 3:36 left to play in the first frame and had a 26-11 advantage at the end of the quarter.

Both teams had 16 points in the second quarter as UConn improved to a 42-27 advantage.  TU shot a solid 43-percent in the second quarter, compared to the Huskies' 28-percent, while half (8-of-16) of UConn's 16 points in the quarter came from the free throw line.

UConn's 15 fourth quarter points was the second lowest in a league game, while their 16 second quarter points were the third lowest in a league game, scoring only fewer (14) against UCF (in the second frame).

The Huskies had a narrow 21-19 scoring edge in the third quarter to take a 63-46 lead with 10 minutes to play.  TU's shooting improved in the third quarter with 61-percent from the field and 100-percent (4-of-4) from behind the arc, while the Huskies shot 52-percent from the field and 33-percent from three-point range in the third frame.
