
Tulsa Tennis Falls to #7 Texas A&M

TULSA, Okla. –– The nation's seventh-ranked Texas A&M Aggies claimed a 7-0 win over the Tulsa men's tennis team Wednesday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa fell to 3-4 overall, while the Aggies remained undefeated on the season with a 4-0 record.
The young Hurricane team, with four freshmen competing in doubles play and three of those newcomers playing singles, fell behind 1-0 as the Aggies claimed the doubles point with 6-1 wins at the #1 and #3 slots.
Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot, ranked 10th nationally, put the visitors ahead 2-0 when he captured a 6-0, 6-3 win over Hurricane freshman Lucca Baptista at the No. 4 singles position. The loss for the Tulsa newcomer was his first dual loss of the spring, falling to 6-1 and 9-3 overall for the full season. The Aggies went ahead 3-0 when Juan Carlos Aguilar defeated another Tulsa freshman Louis Corker 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot.
The Aggies clinched the team win with a victory at the No. 6 position when Barnaby Smith defeated Mitchell Pritchard in two sets, 6-2 and 6-3, to take a 4-0 lead.
At the No. 3 slot, Tulsa's Jared Hing won the first set against 41st-ranked Jordi Arconada 6-3, but dropped the next two sets by identical 6-2 scores.
Freshman Joshua Goodger's bid to stay unbeaten in dual play at the No. 1 position was spoiled by A&M's Patrick Kypson. Goodger, ranked 82nd in the nation, won the first set 6-3, before falling in the second as Kypson grabbed a 6-3 win and then took the match with a 6-4 victory in the final set. Goodger fell to 6-1 in dual action, and 15-4 overall on the year.
Tulsa junior Majed Kilani, the nation's 56th-ranked player, dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to the Aggies' Arthur Rinderknech to close out the match.
Tulsa will be back in action at the Case Tennis Center Friday night to face its third top-20 opponent in the first three weeks of the season as the #20-ranked Tulane Green Wave comes to town for a 6:00 p.m. match time. The Hurricane also hosts Alabama this Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
