LAKE CHARLES, La. – Morgan Neal hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, but McNeese State rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat No. 20/20 Tulsa, 8-6, on Saturday night at the Cowgirl Classic.

The Golden Hurricane (1-2) saw its other scheduled game of the day against Houston Baptist rained out.

Tulsa got on the board in the top of the first when Neal lined a one-out single up the middle to score Julia Hollingsworth, who opened the game with a walk and moved to second on a grounder. However, the Cowgirls (4-0) got that run back with an unearned tally in the bottom of the frame.

The Hurricane then put up four runs in the top of the third to take control. Tori Stafford and Neal got the rally started with back-to-back doubles before a McNeese State error led to another run. Shelby Estocado launched a two-run homer for her second round-tripper of the weekend and the blast gave the visitors a 5-1 advantage.

But the Cowgirls got an unearned run in the third and five runs on four hits and an error in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.

In the sixth, TU cut the deficit in half when Neal pushed across another, but McNeese State matched that score with one of its own in the bottom of the frame for the two-run cushion.

Caroline Settle closed the door in the top of the seventh with a perfect inning to preserve the 8-6 victory.

Emily Watson (1-1) took the loss with four earned runs in four innings, while Madison Higley pitched two innings and yielded just one unearned run.

The Golden Hurricane will finish play at the Cowgirl Classic on Sunday, Feb. 11 when it will take on Houston Baptist (0-1) in a 10 a.m. matchup.
