Preisner Repeats as 5,000-meter Champion and Breaks Meet Record

BRIMINGHAM, Ala. – Ben Preisner retained the 5,000-meter championship at The American Indoor Championships and broke the meet record he set last year in the process. Tulsa track & field was in action Friday night at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Last year Preisner ran a 14:30.85. This year, he shattered that record and ran 14:09.96 on his way to a repeat. Preisner earned back-to-back American Indoor Championships in the event. Adam Roderique came in fourth with a time of 14:26.20.
The team of Braydon Rennie, Henry Visser, Robert Tully, and Ellis Coon won the distance medley with a time of 10:01.07, just edging out rivals Wichita State.
Aleks Rapp set a new personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 20.24 meters (66-4.84). His toss secured him a second-place finish.
In the women's 5,000-meters, Caitlin Klopfer came in second place, with a time of 16:59.88, a new personal best.
Rennie and Mark Middleton qualified for the finals in the men's mile run with times of 4:10.61 and 4:16.42, respectively. Bailey Stewart qualified for the men's 400-meter final, with a time of 48.72. Tully will take part in the finals of the men's 800-meters, after posting a 1:52.88.
Ca'Purnika Galbert qualified for the finals of the women's 400-meters, with a time of 56.32. Sabrina Monsees will take part in the women's 800-meter run, after running a 2:11.95.
The Tulsa men currently sit in fourth place, while the women are tied for 10th. Tulsa returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24, as it completes the final day of the American Indoor Championships.
