Erika Wakefield, Shug Dickson, Alexis Gaulden and Crystal Polk all scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 65-56 decision to Memphis on Saturday afternoon at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in Memphis, Tenn.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 9-19 on the season and 3-12 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers moved to 9-19 overall and 4-11 in the league.

"We got off to a bad start," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We played hard and even after that, but we couldn't overcome our bad start.  Initially to cut it to five at halftime, we had all the momentum in the world.  We played even in the third quarter, but we just couldn't come down and score on our end in the final quarter."

Wakefield led the Hurricane attack with 12 points, while Dickson and Gaulden both added 11, and Polk scored 10.  Polk, Gaulden, Dickson and Jasmine Butler all had a team-best five rebounds, while Wakefield had six assists and Butler had four steals.

Memphis had a 43-36 lead in rebounds and a 12-11 edge in steals, while Tulsa had a 5-3 advantage in blocks, and both teams had 13 assists.

Tulsa shot 35-percent from the field, including 21-percent from behind the arc, and 81-percent from the free throw line, while Memphis was 42-percent from the field, including 18-percent from three-point range, and 63-percent from the charity stripe.

Memphis jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with 6:39 on the clock in the first quarter, as the Golden Hurricane missed their first five shots and the Tigers were 3-of-4 for 75-percent.  TU finished the frame down 16-9 and shooting just 27-percent.

Tulsa outscored Memphis, 16-14, in the second quarter to go into the locker room trailing 30-25. The Hurricane shot 46-percent from the field in the second period, while the Tigers shot 41-percent.

TU chipped away at their deficit to trail by just three points, 44-41, with 3:50 left to play in the third quarter, but the Tigers scored the only basket in the rest of the period for a five-point lead at the end of the frame, 46-41.

Memphis started the final quarter with a 9-0 run to lead 55-41 at the 7:17 mark, but Tulsa went on a 7-0 run to pull within seven to trail 55-48 with 3:58 remaining in the contest.  TU got to within six, 58-52 at the 2:34 mark, but that was as close as they would get as the Tigers captured a nine-point victory.

Brea Elmore had a team-high 20 points for the Tigers, while Cheyenne Creighton totaled 16, Taylor Barnes 13 and Alana Davis 12.  Davis also pulled down 12 rebounds, while Elmore had seven assists, and Creighton and Barnes each had four steals.
