PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The University of Tulsa senior pitcher Emily Watson was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Watson went 3-0 with a pair of shutouts last weekend at the FAU "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament as the Golden Hurricane went 4-1 at the event. The Edmond, Okla., native did not allow a run in 20.0 innings and recorded 30 strikeouts to just a pair of walks. She yielded just nine hits for an opposing batting average of .129 during the tournament.
Watson started the weekend with six scoreless innings with six strikeouts to defeat UIC on Friday. She followed that up with a two-hit shutout of Columbia with a season-high 13 strikeouts before a one-hit whitewashing of Florida Atlantic and another 11 punchouts on just 84 pitches.
This is the first conference Pitcher of the Week award for Watson this season and the 10th of her career.
In addition, senior infielder Shelby Estocado was named to the league's weekly Honor Roll after she hit .471 (8-of-17) with a double, home run and six RBIs last weekend.
Watson, Estocado and the Golden Hurricane (7-7) will be back in action this weekend (March 2-4) at the North Texas Invitational in Denton, Texas.
