NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Golden Hurricane extended its winning streak to three matches on Friday, at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center. Tulsa (15-3) swept SMU (8-8), 4-0, in the neutral site contest.
Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula collected a victory in the No. 1 doubles match against Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki, 6-4. Laskutova and Matoula are now 11-3 in dual doubles play.
Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner took care of Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova, 6-4, clinching the doubles point for the Hurricane. Okalova and Ploner have bolstered a 12-4 record in dual matches.
Liza Buss and Ana Perez-Lopez knocked off Tamara Kupkova and Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg, 6-4, in the No. 3 spot.
Matoula used the momentum from her doubles match, as she claimed the opening set of the No. 3 singles match, 6-4, against Shapovalova. Matoula ran away with the second set, 6-1, giving Tulsa a 2-0 lead. Matoula improved to 10-2 in dual singles matches.
At the No. 4 position, Kupkova took the first set against Perez-Lopez, 6-4. Kupkova followed that with a 6-1 victory in the second set, as she gave the Golden Hurricane a 3-0 lead for the match. Kupkova has recorded an 8-4 mark in dual singles action.
In the No. 5 singles match, Ploner squared off with Yesaki. Ploner clinched the match for the Hurricane as she defeated Yesaki, 6-3 and 6-3. Ploner improved to 10-4 on the season in dual matches.
With the win, Tulsa extended its winning streak to three matches and improved to 15-3 on the year. The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Saturday, March 24, as it takes on the Green Wave of Tulane. First serves are scheduled for noon.
