Tulsa’s Winning Streak Hits Four Matches with Victory Against Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula each recorded a singles victory and a doubles victory to lead the 23rd-ranked Golden Hurricane women's tennis team Saturday. Tulsa (16-3) knocked off the host Tulane Green Wave (8-9), 4-0, at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
The Green Wave won the first doubles match, when Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller bested Vera Ploner and Martina Okalova, 6-0, in the No. 2 position.
Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg and Tamara Kupkova collected the first doubles victory for the Hurricane in the No. 3 match against Daniela La Fuente and Sofia Kurtz, 6-1. Laskutova and Matoula clinched the doubles point for the Golden Hurricane, as they defeated Sade Atkinson and Laura Fabrizi, 7-5.
Matoula faced La Fuente in the No. 4 singles match. Matoula claimed the opening stanza 6-3, before she won the second, 6-2. Matoula improved to 11-2 on the season in dual matches and gave TU an overall lead of 2-0 for the match.
Kupkova won the first set of the No. 3 singles match against Fabrizi, 6-4. Kupkova used the momentum from the opening set, as she earned a 6-2 victory in the second. Kupkova is now 9-4 in dual matches. Her victory put the Hurricane on top, 3-0.
In the No. 1 singles spot, No. 75 Laskutova squared off with Atkinson. Laskutova won the first set, 6-2, before she pulled away to a 6-1 victory in the second. Laskutova clinched the match for TU and improved to 14-3 in dual singles matches.
With the win, the Golden Hurricane extended its winning streak to four and moves to 16-3 on the season. Tulsa will be in action on Wednesday, March 28, as it travels to Dallas for a neutral site match against No. 9 Texas Tech.
