Golden Hurricane Falls to No. 17 Texas Tech

DALLAS, Texas – Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula defeated the No. 8 doubles tandem in the country, 6-4, but Tulsa (16-4) dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 17 Texas Tech (12-4) on Wednesday at the SMU Tennis Center.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Laskutova and Matoula faced the No. 8 ranked doubles team in the country, Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici. The Hurricane duo knocked off the Lady Raiders pair, 6-4. Laskutova and Matoula picked up their first win against a ranked pair and improved to 13-3 in dual matches.
In the No. 3 doubles match, Tamara Kupkova and Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg battled Lana Rush and Alex Valenstein. Kupkova and van Rensburg came out victorious, 6-4, and secured the doubles point for the Golden Hurricane. Kupkova and van Rensburg are now 7-1 in dual match play. Tulsa held a 1-0 lead as the match went to singles competition.
The No. 41 ranked Felicity Maltby bested Kupkova, 6-2 and 6-0, in the No. 2 singles spot. Federici, ranked No. 78, claimed a 6-2 and 6-1 victory against Matoula in the No. 3 match. Valenstein defeated Shura Poppe in the No. 5 singles position, 6-2 and 6-4. Katelyn Jackson clinched the match for Texas Tech, as she beat van Rensburg, 6-3 and 6-2, in the No. 6 singles match.
Tulsa, now 16-4, returns to the court on Friday, April 6, as it travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Golden Hurricane will face the No. 13 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 6 p.m.
