
Tulsa's Hannah Vissers and Emily Watson named Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners by the American Athletic Conference

TULSA, Okla. – The American Athletic Conference announced today the individual sport winners for the league's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year awards.
Tulsa rower Hannah Vissers and softball All-America pitcher Emily Watson earned the league's Female Scholar Athlete of the Year honor for their particular sport. Each winner receives a $2,000 scholarship which may be applied to graduate or professional studies. The male award winners will be announced on Wednesday.
Vissers, a senior from Kingston, Ontario, Canada, has maintained a 3.918 grade point average in sociology. She earned academic all-conference honors in each of her first three seasons, while earning Dean's List honors for eight semesters. She has been a team captain all four years.
A member on the Varsity-8+ boat, Vissers helped lead her boat to second-place finishes at the last three conference championships. She earned all-conference accolades as a sophomore and junior.
A three-year letterwinner, Watson has maintained a cumulative 3.250 GPA in business management, while earning academic all-conference honors in each of her first three years.
Watson, from Edmond, Okla., has posted a 7-2 record and 1.88 earned run average through the first month of the season for the Golden Hurricane softball team. The Tulsa senior has recorded 66 strikeouts this year, while pitching two shutouts.
Last season, Watson earned second-team NFCA All-America honors after recording single season school records for wins (30), starts (36), complete games (29) and shutouts (14), while her 348 strikeouts ranks second. She was The American's Pitcher of the Year and the league tournament's Most Outstanding Player, while leading the Hurricane to the regular season and postseason American Athletic Conference titles and an overall 41-17 record. Watson led all the nation's pitchers with her 14 shutouts.
Watson has an overall career record of 57-21 with 25 shutouts, 52 complete games and 663 strikeouts. She has been a 10-time American Athletic Conference pitcher of the week.
