
Tulsa Falls to Memphis at the Buzzer, 67-64

ORLANDO, Fla. — Kareem Brewton Jr. hit a running 3-pointer as time expired to lift fifth-seeded Memphis past the No. 4 seed Tulsa, 67-64, in the quarterfinals of the Aaron's American Athletic Conference Championship at Amway Center.
Corey Henderson Jr. scored a game-high 20 points, 16 of which came in the second half, to lead the Golden Hurricane (19-12). Sterling Taplin added 14 points and Junior Etou recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
TU shot 51.7-percent in the second half and scored 38 points in the paint.
Meanwhile, Brewton Jr. and Kyvon Davenport led the Tigers (21-12) with 15 points apiece. Mike Parks Jr. added 13 points and Jamal Johnson finished with a dozen. Memphis shot 50-percent and committed 18 turnovers.
Tulsa trailed by as much as 11 points in the second half, but went on a 13-2 run to tie the score at 50 with 7:28 left. The Hurricane made seven straight shots as part of the run, which included seven points from Henderson Jr.
The Tigers responded with two buckets before TU went on a 7-0 spurt for a 57-54 advantage with 3:54 remaining. Memphis reclaimed the lead with 1:51 to go to set up a back-and-forth final 90 seconds.
Martins Igbanu tied the score at 64 with a free throw with just 3.5 seconds left, but Brewton Jr. dribbled up the floor and let go a running floater just before the buzzer that gave Memphis the 67-64 win and a spot in Saturday's semifinals.
Tulsa led for the first nine minutes of the contest as Henderson Jr. put the Hurricane ahead with a jumper on the game's first possession. The senior scored again inside before a Curran Scott layup and a dunk from DaQuan Jeffries gave TU an 8-3 advantage.
However, the Tigers went on a 16-3 run over a 10-minute stretch to grab their largest lead of the half, 26-16. But TU held Memphis scoreless for the final 3:58 of the period and went on a 9-0 run to pull within 26-25 at halftime.
Etou started the run with four consecutive free throws and Taplin scored the final five points with a free throw and two layups.
