Golden Hurricane Corrals Mustangs, 5-2

DALLAS, Texas – Majed Kilani and Boriss Kamdem each collected a doubles and singles victory Friday night at the SMU Tennis Complex. Tulsa (11-16) stormed past SMU (8-17), 5-2, in the final regular season matchup.
Kilani and Kamdem defeated Eladio Fabregas and Gardiner Perotti, 6-3, in the No. 3 doubles match.
Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky upset the No. 62 ranked Jarod Hing and Joshua Goodger in the No. 1 position, 6-3. Charles Nettlefold and Roberto Rosales bested Louis Corker and Mitchell Pritchard, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot. SMU held a 1-0 lead as the match headed to singles play.
Kamdem claimed the opening set of the No. 6 singles match, 6-4, against Fabregas. Kamdem matched his first set performance with a 6-4 victory in the second. Kamdem is now 6-7 in dual singles matches but more importantly, he tied the match at 1-1.
Nettlefold put the Mustangs back on top, 2-1, as he bested Hing in the No. 4 match, 1-6, 6-3, and 6-2.
The No. 102 ranked Goodger, swept Vrbsky in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4, in the No. 2 spot. Goodger improved to 15-7 in dual matches and he tied the match at 2-2.
Pritchard won the first stanza of the No. 5 match against Rosales, 7-6. Pritchard distanced himself in the second and took the set, 6-3. Pritchard won his final regular season dual singles match and claimed his fifth victory of the season. Pritchard gave the Hurricane its first lead of the night, 3-2.
Vaise shutout the No. 114 ranked Kilani, 6-0, in the opening set of the No. 1 singles match. Kilani was resilient as he broke Vaise three times in the second set, on his way to a 6-0 victory. Kilani used that momentum to distance himself, as he claimed the final set, 6-4. Kilani is now 15-6 in dual match singles competition and has won three singles matches in a row. Kilani clinched the match win for TU and extended the Tulsa lead to 4-2.
Lucca Baptista took the first set at the No. 3 position, 7-5, against Perotti. After Perotti won the second set, 6-4, Baptista bounced back and won the super tiebreaker, for the third set, 10-6. Baptista made the final match score, 5-2, and is now 12-13 in dual singles play.
Tulsa is now 11-16 on the season and returns to Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, April 19. The Golden Hurricane will participate in the American Athletic Conference Tournament, with the seedings and matchups to be announced at a later date.
