Spurgeon Wins the Heptathlon as Tulsa Competes in John McDonnell Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Tulsa track & field team was in action Saturday at the John McDonnell Invitational, hosted by Arkansas.
Carsyn Spurgeon won the women's heptathlon with a total of 4,520 points. In the 200-meters, Spurgeon recorded a time of 25.29. She ran the 800-meters in 2:49.06 and added a 15.66 time in the 100-meter hurdles. In the high jump, she posted a jump of 1.54 meters (5-00.50) and added a leap of 5.60 meters (18-04.50) in the long jump. In the shot put she posted a toss of 10.00 meters (32-09.75) and added a throw of 31.61 meters (103-08) in the javelin.
Aaliyah Birmingham notched a fifth-place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 23.78.
With a time of 55.56, Ca'Purnika Galbert placed fifth in the 400-meters.
Alyssa Bolliger placed fourth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 10:08.47. Avery Culpepper finished in fifth with a time of 10:11.28.
Kiarra Jones came in fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:02.69.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Stacie Taylor posted a time of 11:37.05, good for third place.
With a toss of 47.08 meters (154-05), Baylor Reese placed second in the discus. Reese added a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.77 meters (143-07).
Ali Lund came in third with a throw of 39.19 meters (128-07) in the javelin. Quin Washington posted a sixth-place finish with a hurl of 31.10 meters (102-00).
Bailey Stewart placed sixth in the men's 400-meters with a time of 48.32.
Grey Howard ran the 800-meters invitational in 1:50.65, as he placed second.
Luke Moran posted a second-place finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:00.41. August Bont came in third with a mark of 2:00.44, while Nathan Rendon came in sixth with a time of 2:05.46.
In the 1,500-meters, Robert Tully posted a time of 3:49.94, as he placed fourth.
Steven Salvano recorded a time of 8:46.71 on his way to a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meters.
Reed Sahadevan ran a time of 9:52.18 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he placed fifth.
Zachary Adee, Henry Visser, Howard, and Stewart came in fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a combined time of 3:16.36.
Aleks Rapp threw the discus 50.43 meters (165-05) as he placed third. Rapp added a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a hurl of 51.95 meters (170-05).
Tulsa returns to action when the team heads to California for four different meets. Athletes will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays, John Jacobs Invitational, Bryan Clay Invite, and the Cardinal Invitational, all taking place the weekend of April 19.
