HOUSTON – The University of Tulsa softball team scored in each of the final five innings to erase an early deficit and defeat Houston, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Stadium.

Julia Hollingsworth and Morgan Neal each recorded three hits for the Golden Hurricane (27-20, 7-8), as the top-third of the lineup combined to go 8-for-12 with a double, five runs scored and three RBIs. The TU offense also received a lift from freshmen Marisa Olmos and Samantha Pochop, who each made their first starts in the field at catcher and first base, respectively.

Olmos went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Pochop went 1-for-3 and drove in a run to help the Hurricane to its most runs and hits since a 9-3 win at Wichita State on April 7. Emily Watson went the distance in the circle to improve to 17-10 after she allowed just two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Savannah Heebner went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple, but gave up five runs in five innings in the circle for the Cougars (29-17, 8-7). Maya Thomas also had two hits for Houston, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Heebner's RBI triple came in the bottom of the first and staked the Cougars out to an early 1-0 lead. However, Hollingsworth singled and advanced to second on an error before Neal tied the game with a single in the top of the third. It would be the first of five consecutive innings with a run for the Hurricane.

TU took the lead for good in the fourth, when Pochop dropped a two-out single in right-center field to plate Mikayla Whitten.

An inning later, the Hurricane broke the game open with three runs as the first five batters in the inning reached base. Hollingsworth walked before singles by Neal and Shelby Estocado extended the advantage to 3-1. With the bases loaded, Olmos nearly cleared them with a two-run hit off the base of the wall in right field.

Estocado doubled home Hollingsworth in the sixth for a 6-1 cushion before the Cougars got a run back in the bottom of the frame. But Rylie Spell drove a sacrifice fly to deep center field in the seventh to make it 7-2.

Watson allowed just two hits through five innings and after yielding a run in the sixth, she sat down the Cougars in order in the seventh to close out the 7-2 final score.

Tulsa will continue American Athletic Conference play, April 27-29, when it travels to Memphis for a three-game series with the Tigers (33-16, 8-7).
