
History was Made at Drake Relays, as TU Claims Distance Medley Relay Championship

DES MOINES, Iowa – The team of Mark Middleton, Bailey Stewart, Grey Howard, and Robert Tully recorded a time of 9:42.75 to win the distance medley relay for the first time in school history. The Tulsa track and field team competed at the Drake Relays, which started on Wednesday and concluded on Saturday.
At the conclusion of three legs, the Golden Hurricane was in third place behind Iowa State and Iowa. Tully, the anchor of the relay team ran the 1,600-meter final leg in a time of 4:05.07. Tully's speedy leg stormed past the Iowa and Iowa State teams and claimed the first-place finish for Tulsa. Middleton, Stewart, Howard, and Tully recorded TU's first ever distance medley relay championship.
Henry Visser set a new program record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51. 77 on his way to a ninth-place finish.
After last week's personal-best performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Ashley Barnes followed that up with a personal-best mark of 17:07.11 in the unseeded 5,000-meters. Barnes' time earned her a fifth-place finish.
In his first ever 10,000-meter race, Peter Lynch notched a personal-best time of 30:40.25 and placed third. Despite it being his first collegiate 10k, Lynch finished as the top college athlete.
Isaac Dobos collected a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:16.23.
The team of Howard, Stewart, Henry Visser, and Zachary Adee combined for a time of 3:13.78 in the 4x400 meter relay, which was good enough to qualify for the finals. In the finals, the group of men improved on the qualifying time and ran a 3:12.69 and placed sixth.
In the 1,600-meter sprint medley, the team of Candalyn Lyons, Aaliyah Birmingham, Ca'Purnika Galbert, and Allison Bailey recorded a third-place time of 3:51.41.
Tulsa will be in action again on Friday, May 4, as it travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Arkansas Twilight meet.
