Tulsa Takes Series Finale at Memphis on Sunday, 5-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Emily Watson struck out 10 and Rylie Spell hit her seventh home run of the season as Tulsa took the series finale at Memphis, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Tigers Softball Complex.
Julia Hollingsworth also homered for the Golden Hurricane (28-22, 8-10), who played its final road game of the regular-season. In addition, Shelby Estocado and Mikayla Whitten each recorded a pair of hits to help fuel the offense.
For Watson, she recorded at least 10 strikeouts for the 11th time during the campaign. The senior allowed a pair of runs on six hits and improved to 18-11 in the circle.
Meanwhile, Brooke Lee hit her seventh homer of the season to lead the Tigers (36-17, 10-8).
Hollingsworth wasted no time in putting the Hurricane on the board as she led off the game with her home run to center field. The blast was the second of the season for the junior and TU again used the long-ball an inning later to push the lead to 3-0. Shannon Hughes legged-out an infield single before Spell's booming two-run homer to left extended the cushion.
The lead went to 4-0 with the help of a Memphis error in the top of the fourth as Whitten drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers would break up the shutout in the bottom of the inning and slice the TU lead in half when Lee opened the inning with a homer before Kyler Trosclair's single up the middle scored a run to make it 4-2.
But that would be as close as the Tigers would get and the Hurricane would get one of those runs back in the top of the fifth when Sarah Briers grounded out and pushed a run across for a 5-2 advantage.
Watson did not allow a hit over the final three innings to close out the 5-2 win.
Tulsa will close the regular-season with a three-game series next weekend, May 5-7, against UConn (19-32, 4-14) at Collins Family Softball Complex.
