Tulsa rowing Head Coach Kevin Harris announced today that the Golden Hurricane have added two new student-athletes to the Fall 2018 recruiting class.  There are currently twelve countries represented on the TU team, but two more flags will be featured this upcoming fall with Karen Undset representing Norway and Sarolta Papp representing Hungary.

"These two young women are going to be outstanding additions to a very solid class," said Harris.  "Kerry continues to do a great job of identifying the women who fit with our University and will help make our team better.  I am very much looking forward to coaching these student-athletes and watching them learn and grow at Tulsa."

49530Undset is from Stavanger, Norway, where she competes for Stavanger Roklub under Coach Sven Erik Sandsmark and Svein Olav Jonassen.  An accomplished sculler, Undset was a three-time Norwegian Junior National Champion in the Double (2015, 2016, 2017) and has also won gold in the Pair and the Junior Quadruple Sculls.  Competing at the 2016 and 2017 Nordic Championships, Undset finished with a silver and bronze in the Double, has also been in development with the Norwegian Junior National Team.  It was her uncle, Kjetil Undset (1992 and 1996 Olympic silver medalist) who encouraged her to start rowing.  Undset is the first female athlete from Stavanger Roklub to row and study in the United States, and she has chosen physics as her field of study at Tulsa.

Why Tulsa?
"The people made me want to me become a part of the TU rowing team.  During my official visit in February I met coaches and athletes, and everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming.  I got a sense that everyone wanted me specifically to join them.  I also felt that I am not going to be just one in the crowd, but a valuable member of the team, and that my efforts will be appreciated."

49531Papp competes for the Hungarian Under 23 National Team and is a member of the Spartacus Sport Club of Baja where she is coached by Nandor Bartos and Arpad Papp, and she attends Kosztolanyi Dezso Grammer School.  Papp finished first in the Lightweight Quadruple Sculls at the 2017 Hungarian National Championships, and has competed twice on the world stage in the 2016 Junior World Championships and 2017 Under 23 World Championships.  Her proudest moment was reaching the A final at the 2016 European Junior Championships in the Four without coxswain.  Papp will study international business and languages at Tulsa.

Why Tulsa?
"I wanted to choose a university that ensures that I will study at a high level and train well. It was also a critical factor that the university I attend allows me to compete in the Lightweight category, and I think The University of Tulsa is the best choice for me!"
