Golden Hurricane Varsity 8+ Finishes Second at Sunshine State Invitational

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ finished second, while the 2nd Varsity 8+ was fourth, the 2nd Varsity 4+ was fifth and the Varsity 4+ was sixth at the Sunshine State Invitational. The two-day regatta was hosted at the Nathan Benderson Rowing Center in Sarasota, Fla.
"I am really pleased with the fact that all of our crews put together two good races against great crews this weekend," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We executed the race plan pretty well. Today's conditions were a little rougher, but it was good to have that challenge. It was fun to race these teams and prepare for what is coming up this season."
Sam Barber, Helen Leigh, Ellie Russell, Lucy Coleman, Veronique Ulrich, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Paige Hallam, Sophia Camara and Hannah Vissers raced the Varsity 8+ to a second-place time of 6:25.42, just over a second behind UCF (6:24.60), but more than seven seconds faster than third-place Miami (6:32.94).
In the 2nd Varsity 8+, TU finished fourth with a time of 6:36.84, behind UCF, North Carolina and Clemson. The Golden Hurricane boat featured Eva Trabucco, Alessia Ruggiu, Madeline Lyons, Elisa Vandersloot, Elizabeth McCabe, Kristy Covre, Taylah Eder, Sydney Pirkle and Madeline Oleksiak.
TU's 2nd Varsity 4+ was fifth, while the Varsity 4+ was sixth in their race.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15, at the Clemson Invitational.
