Tulsa Storms Past North Texas, 4-0

TULSA, Okla. – Tamara Kupkova clinched the match for the Golden Hurricane as she won the No. 3 singles match on Sunday, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa improves to 17-5 overall with the 4-0 victory over North Texas, now 7-12.
Kupkova and Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg claimed a walkover victory in the No. 3 doubles match. The No. 86 duo of Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula blew past Maria Kononova and Minying Liang, 6-1, in the No. 1 position. The Hurricane held a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Shura Poppe gave Tulsa a 2-0 lead when she claimed a walkover win in the No. 6 singles match.
Matoula jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set of the No. 4 singles match against Nidhi Surapaneni. Surapaneni managed to break Matoula to pull within one, but Matoula was unfazed and broke Surapaneni for a third time to win the first set, 6-3. Matoula started the second with a 4-0 lead, before she sealed the set, 6-2. Matoula improves 12-4 in dual matches and she put the Hurricane on top 3-0.
In the No. 3 singles position, Kupkova took the first two games of the opening stanza against Alexandra Heczey. After she broke Heczey for a second time, Kupkova claimed a 6-3 victory in the first. With the score tied 4-4 in the second, Kupkova held serve before she broke Heczey's serve for a third time in the set. Kupkova won the second set 6-4. Kupkova clinched the 4-0 shutout for TU and improved 10-6 in dual match play.
The Golden Hurricane returns to the Case Tennis Center on Friday, April 13. Tulsa concludes the regular season with a matchup against No. 22 UCF and it will also be senior night. Senior day festivities will take place before the start of the match, which will start at 5 p.m.
