TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa named Zach Hanson as the school's offensive line coach, it was announced today by Golden Hurricane Head Coach Philip Montgomery. Hanson spent the 2019 season as a senior offensive analyst with the University of Oklahoma, helping the Sooners reach the BCS playoffs.

Before his role at Oklahoma, Hanson spent two seasons (2017-18) as the tight end and assistant offensive line coach at his alma mater, Kansas State, under legendary coach Bill Snyder.

"I'm really excited to have Zach join our program," said Montgomery. "I love his demeanor and the knowledge he possesses. He played and coached under Bill Snyder at Kansas State, so he brings that vast experience with him."

"Last year, Zach was on Oklahoma's staff as an analyst. In talking with Lincoln (Riley), I know he hates to see Zach leave, but excited for him to get back on the field and do what he loves to do," said Montgomery. "Zach will be an asset to our program and will do an outstanding job with our offensive line. He'll bring new ideas and concepts with him as we continue to grow and develop in preparing for next season."

Prior to returning to his K-State, Hanson spent two seasons (2015-16) at North Carolina working as a graduate assistant for special teams. While at UNC, Hanson helped develop some quality special teams units as the Tar Heels led the nation in punt coverage in 2016, allowing opponents to return nine punts for just two yards. Carolina also finished the season ranked second in the nation in kickoff return average (26.97).

Under Hanson's tutelage, freshman punter Tom Sheldon earned USA Today Freshman All-American accolades, while ranking in the top-20 nationally in net punting. Senior place-kicker Nick Weiler earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors after booting 15 field goals, including a 54-yard game-winner at Florida State.
