Tulsa Women Golfers Finish in 21st Place at NCAA Championships

West Lafayette, Indiana - The Tulsa women's golf team placed 21st at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship. The Hurricane carded a final round 308 and finished with a score of 1257 on the par-72 Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex .

USC captured the team title with a 45-over par 1197 total. The Trojans led from day one and today carded an eight-over par 296 score and held on for a 15-stroke victory over second-place Pepperdine. The Waves shot a 16-over par round today for a 1212 total.

Rounding out the top-five teams were Texas (1213), Ohio State (1214) and UCLA and Oklahoma State (1216) tied for fifth place. The teams finishing from 7-10 included Arizona (1217), Florida (1221), Auburn (1224) and Duke (1225)

Today, Tulsa counted four rounds all in the 70s, with two 76s, one 77 and a 79. Individually, junior Julie Tvede shot a final round 76 and finished in 40th place with a 19-over par score of 307.

Freshman Christine Fernandez used a 77 today and finished with a 312 total for 66th place. Fellow freshman Courtney Jones placed 93rd overall with a 322 total following today's 79, and Tulsa's third freshman Cas Bridge carded her best round of the tournament today with a 76. She finished with a 326 total, while junior Suzie Fisher finished with a score of 327.

Tvede birdied holes 15 and 18 today for her four-over par score, while Bridge had four birdies but offset the four-under with three double bogeys, two of which came on the final six holes.

In addition to the team title, USC also had the individual medalist as Mikaela Parmlid and Florida's Andrea Vander Lende tied for the individual title with 297 totals. Parmlid captured the title on the first hole of a playoff.

The Hurricane returns all five players that competed in the NCAA tournament. In 2003-04, Tulsa will be going after a sixth straight Western Athletic Conference title and fifth national crown.
