Camacho and Cunningham Topple Top Ranked Doubles Team

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's doubles team of Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham shocked the top-ranked and defending NCAA doubles champions from Illinois with an 8-6 win in the round of 16 at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships on Friday.

Brugues, ranked No. 7 in the nation, pushed through to the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-1 win over No. 61 Ivan Puchkarov of Oklahoma State. Brugues fell behind 5-2 in the first set, but stormed back, winning 11 straight games to take the match in straight sets. He will next face Illinois' Ryan Rowe in the quarters on Saturday at 10 a.m.

TU's Will Gray, a day after beating No. 11 Daniel Byrnes of Oklahoma State, defeated No. 22 Martin Sayer of Radford by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. Gray will now face No. 14 Todd Paul of Wake Forest at 10 a.m.

The duo of Camacho and Cunningham were unable to carry their momentum from their earlier upset of the No. 1-ranked team in the country, falling to the No. 9 ranked doubles team from Georgia, 8-3 in the quartefinals.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American tennis Championships will continue through October 8.
