Tulsa freshman men's soccer player Jacob Gooden has been selected to compete as part of Team USA in the 13th Pan American Maccabi Games, which will take place from December 27 to January 4.
"This is a great honor for Jacob to be selected to the team," Head Tulsa Men's Soccer Coach Tom McIntosh said. "There are a lot of good players that could be selected so I am proud that he has the opportunity. He works hard every day and puts everything into training, so it is great to see him rewarded for his hard work. He is a tremendous teammate and player in our program, but he had an untimely ankle surgery before the season, which hurt his playing ability this season. We believe he has the ability to help the Maccabi team be successful in the Pan American Games, as well as help our program continue to move forward next year."
Gooden, a midfielder from Malibu, Calif., earned playing time against Oral Roberts and in that game recorded his first career assist. He also had one shot attempt, which was on goal.
Team USA consists of 314 athletes on 33 teams in Open, Juniors, Youth and Masters divisions competing in 14 sports. More than 2,500 Jewish athletes from 22 countries will attend.
Maccabi USA (MUSA) is a federally-recognized not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with an extensive history of enriching Jewish lives through athletic, cultural and educational programs.
