
Four Tulsa Men’s Soccer Players Named to The American Second Team; Two Earn All-Rookie Accolades

Tulsa men's soccer players Jake McGuire, Matthew Puig, Ray Saari and Zack Stavrou were all named to the American Athletic Conference second team, while Alejandro Chavez and Puig picked up All-Rookie Team accolades, as announced today by the league office.
McGuire, a senior goalkeeper from Chino Hills, Calif., has played all 1,615 minutes of the season in goal, picked up 52 saves and has five shutouts on the season. He has recorded a 1.06 goals-against average and a 73.2 saves percentage this year. McGuire ranks third in GAA, fifth in saves, sixth in shutouts and seventh in saves percentage among the league's best.
A freshman forward from Edmond, Okla., Puig has started 12 of 17 games as a true freshman. He has registered a team-best seven goals and 15 points, while adding one assist. Three of his goals have been game-winners, while he went 2-for-2 on penalty kicks. Puig ranks fourth in game-winners and goals, and fifth in shots (39) and points in the league.
Saari, a senior midfielder from Kansas City, Mo., has started 11 of 12 games, while missing five games due to injury. He has the second-most goals on the TU roster with five and is first in assists with four for 14 points on the year. Two of his goals were game winners, while he went 3-of-4 from the penalty kick line, and had 13 of his 19 shots on goal for a 68.4 shots-on-goal percentage. Saari ranks sixth in goals, assists and points among the league's best this season.
A junior defender from Dallas, Texas, Stavrou has started all 17 games this year. He had one game-winning goal on the season, while attempting 10 shots, five of which were on goal. Stavrou was also instrumental in the Golden Hurricane's five shutouts on the season.
Chavez, a freshman midfielder from Broken Arrow, Okla., has also started all 17 games this season. He has one goal and three assist for five points, and has attempted nine shots on the year.
