The Tulsa men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Missouri State on Friday night at the Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield, Mo. TU fell to 0-1-1 on the season, while MSU moved to 1-1 overall.
"They are a very good defensive team and they are going to make it hard for teams to score goals, but hopefully we learned a lesson," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I don't think we were sharp enough with our attacking players and at the end of the day that has to be better. At the start of the game we didn't pass it well enough, we were too complacent in our possession and we had a couple of defensive breakdowns to give up two early goals. Missouri State is always a better team when they don't have the ball and tonight we played into their hands."
Harry Lewis put the Bears on the board as he scored from five yards out at the 13:51 mark, and then Jordy Robins gave MSU a two-goal cushion off a header in the 18th minute. Neither team found the back of the net for the remaining 72 minutes off the clock.
Tulsa had a 9-7 lead in shots, while Missouri State had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal, and TU had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Miguel Velasquez had a team-leading four shots and Vincent Pedace added two attempts. Cooper Clark logged all 90 minutes between the posts and had one save.
Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, September 7 at Santa Clara. Game time is set for 9:30 pm in California.
