Tulsa's Rollie Rocha and Marcel Da Silva were named this week's men's soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, as announced today by the league office.
Rocha, a senior midfielder from Spring, Texas, played 180 minutes on the weekend, helping TU earn a 3-2 win over Santa Clara and a 2-0 win over #1 Stanford. Rocha's most impressive feat was scoring two penalty kicks to lead the Golden Hurricane to the 2-0 win over top-ranked and previously undefeated Stanford. He had three shots in both contests, which was the most against the Cardinal and the second-best against the Broncos.
A sophomore goalkeeper from Ormond Beach, Fla., Da Silva logged all 191 minutes in goal on the weekend, picking up nine saves and allowing just two goals for a 0.94 GAA and an .818 saves percentage. He recorded three saves against the Broncos and stopped all six shots on goal by the top-ranked Cardinal.
These were the first two weekly honors for the Golden Hurricane this season, and the second honor for Rocha who was also tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26, 2016.
