Tulsa signed six players for the 2018 men's soccer signing class, including transfers Brady Moody and Bryson Reed, as well as freshmen Mitchell Cashion, Seth Korenek, Gilles Kuhler and Alex Meinhard, as announced today by head coach Tom McIntosh.
"I am pleased with the signee class overall and I am looking forward to getting them on campus and working with them," McIntosh said. "All four of the field players have the opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact, and the two goalkeepers can come in and compete with Lucas [Cline] and Cooper [Clark]."
A 6-0 goalkeeper from Greer, S.C., Moody is transferring to Tulsa after one year as a member of the University of South Carolina Upstate soccer team. He played in just one contest, logging 60:46 between the posts and recording a win. Moody played club soccer for Chicago Magic FC United Academy, including games in the USSDA Playoffs and NPL semifinals. He recorded 29 starts and 15 shutouts from 2015-17. Moody also played for Neuqua Valley High School as a sophomore, earning 20 starts and posting a 15-3-2 record, including a school single-season record 13 shutouts. For his efforts was named to the all-conference and all-sectional honorable mention team.
Reed, a 6-2 goalkeeper from Stillwater, Okla., was a two-year letterwinner at Northern Oklahoma College where he was a goalkeeper and forward. He helped his team advance to the NJCAA Regional championship as a freshman and the NJCAA Regional semifinals as a sophomore. Reed logged 1,253 minutes in goal, picked up 39 saves and seven shutouts for a 0.79 goals-against average, and recorded two assists as a sophomore. During his freshman campaign he tallied eight goals and four assists. He also played for Stillwater High School, leading his team to a 35-0-22 mark while in goal in four seasons, and to the Oklahoma Class 6A state playoffs twice. Reed had 30 goals and 19 assists, both of which were school records, during his career, and was a three-time all-conference and all-district performer. He also played club soccer for Stillwater Apex FC.
"We needed to add a couple of goalkeepers and getting two transfers with a little bit of experience helps," McIntosh said. "We are pleased with the additions in goal with Bryson and Brady, and it rounds out our goalkeeping group."
A 5-10 forward from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Kuhler was a starter for the Oberliga in 2017 and 2018. He also played in the 2016 Westfalenauswahl, which features the best players in the region, and was with the U17 Bundesliga, U19 Landesliga and U19 Westfalenliga teams.
Meinhard, a 5-11 forward from Tartu, Estonia, plays club soccer for FC Santos Tartu. He played in eight games for Estonian U19 National Team, including European Qualification games in the Czech Republic, and he competed in two games for the Estonian U18 National Team. In 2017, Meinhard had 22 goals and 17 assists in 35 games, and he tallied 14 goals and six assists in 35 games in 2016.
"We needed to add quality players in the attack and I think we did that with Gilles and Alex," McIntosh added. "Both of them have played at a high level with and against some of the better players in Europe growing up so we like what they bring to the table."
A 5-5 defender from College Station, Texas, Cashion plays club soccer for the Houston Texans Soccer Academy. He helped his team claim the 2017 Development Academy National Championship and earn an invitation to the 2018 Dallas Cup.
"Mitchell is a very good outside back, left or right, and is one of the best 1-v-1 defenders that I've seen," McIntosh said. "He's tough to beat and super competitive, and he is good going forward with the ball."
Korenek, a 5-9 midfielder from Corpus Christi, Texas, plays club soccer for South Texas Futbol Club, where he has played in the State Classic League (U15-U17), and Southern Regional Premier League (U18-U19). He has competed with the 2015-17 Region III ODP Regional Team, while playing in the 2015 and 2016 Interregional Nike Friendlies, 2016 international trip to Buenos Aires, and 2017 international trip to Portugal. Korenek also plays for W. B. Ray High School where has helped his team record 30 wins in three seasons. With WBRHS he has earned first-team all-district and first-team all-South Texas accolades as both a sophomore and junior.
"Seth is another good center-midfield player," McIntosh said. "He has a good brain and is strong, and has played at a high level as well."
