Tulsa Football Falls To SMU, 24-20

DALLAS (AP) - Josh McCown passed for 157 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score as Southern Methodist beat Tulsa 24-20 on Saturday night.
McCown, benched the last three games after throwing 11 interceptions in four games, got the start against the Golden Hurricane after David Page threw three interceptions last week in a loss to Rice. McCown completed 14 of 19 passes.
The Mustangs (3-7, 2-4 Western Athletic) held off a late rally by Tulsa (3-7, 2-4) with 58 seconds left in the game.
Josh Blankenship completed a 16-yard pass to Donald Shoals at the SMU 46 with 53 seconds remaining. But three passes then went incomplete, and a quick snap on fourth down was recovered by the Mustangs' Markus Pratt.
Kris Briggs rushed for 115 yards for the Mustangs, including a 2-yard touchdown run.
The Mustangs took advantage of an 11-yard Tulsa punt before halftime. SMU needed only two plays and 10 seconds to go 34 yards, with McCown throwing a 17-yard TD pass to John Hampton.
McCown's 28-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the longest of his career.
Jacob Crowley kicked a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for SMU.
Ken Bohanon had touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards in the fourth quarter for the Golden Hurricane. But Chris Earnest missed the extra point after Bohanon's second touchdown with 3:22 left in the game, leaving SMU ahead 24-20.
Blankenship completed 19 of 36 passes for 227 yards and ran for a touchdown.
The late Doak Walker, the most decorated player in SMU history, was honored at halftime. Walker, who died in 1998, was an All-American running back for SMU in the late 1940s before going to the Detroit Lions.
Tulsa senior Corey Brown, in his second game back from an ankle sprain, caught four passes for 48 yards.
