TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Dante Swanson scored 19 points and Tulsa won in coach John Phillips' debut, beating Grambling State 104-61 Monday night.
Phillips took over for Buzz Peterson, who guided the Golden Hurricane to the NIT championship last season before leaving to coach at Tennessee.
Swanson, who shot 5-for-8 from the 3-point line, also had eight rebounds and seven assists.
Kevin Johnson had 17 points for Tulsa (1-0), while Charlie Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Grambling (1-1) erased an early deficit to take its only lead at 27-26 on a jumper by William McDonald with 4:20 left in the first half.
Swanson responded by making two 3-pointers in a 16-0 run that put Tulsa up 42-27 at halftime.
Paul Haynes led Grambling with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ron Ellis had 13 points and William McDonald 12.
Grambling made 7-of-14 from the 3-point line but shot just 40 percent overall.
