TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Kevin Johnson scored 18 points Saturday night and guard Antonio Reed had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals in his second career start as Tulsa beat Texas-El Paso 87-72.

With the victory, the Golden Hurricane (16-8, 7-4) took over third place by itself in the Western Athletic Conference. UTEP fell to 17-6 and 6-5 despite 24 points by Eugene Castello and 20 from Brandon Wolfram.

Tulsa came in as the WAC's best 3-point shooting team, but made just 6-of-23 (26 percent). The Hurricane made up for it with fast-break opportunities and unselfish play, as Tulsa had 25 assists compared with just 11 for the Miners.

David Shelton scored 15 points, Marcus Hill 10 and all 10 Tulsa players who suited up scored at least four.

UTEP cut a nine-point halftime deficit to 54-50 at the 15:36 mark, but a 24-9 run capped by a lob dunk by Marqus Ledoux gave the Hurricane its largest lead, 78-59, with 5:48 to play.
