TULSA, Okla. (AP) - David Shelton and Marcus Hill combined for 38 points as Tulsa beat Southern Methodist 85-65 in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday night.
Shelton scored 20 points and Hill added 18 for the Golden Hurricane (18-9, 9-5 WAC). Tulsa led 41-25 at the half, then made 13 of its first 16 second-half shots to expand its lead to 78-48 with 9:02 left in the game.
SMU (18-10, 8-7 WAC) kept it as close as it was by making 17 of 28 free throws, compared to 1-of-5 for Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane hit 14-of-25 3-pointers (56 percent) and shot 57.4 percent overall.
Tulsa held SMU's leading scorer, Jeryl Sasser, to nine points, 8.2 below his average.
Quinton Ross and Lavardicus Atkins led the Mustangs with 13 points each and center Mike Niemi added 10.
