TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Dante Swanson scored 16 points and Tulsa held Rice to 37 percent shooting in a 79-60 victory over the Owls on Monday night.
Kevin Johnson had 13 points and seven blocked shots for the Golden Hurricane (16-4, 7-2 Western Athletic Conference). Jason Parker scored 12 points and Greg Harrington added 10.
Rice (7-12, 2-7) got 17 points and 11 rebounds from Michael Harris and 14 points from Omar-Seli Mance. But the Owls scored just 16 first-half points and wound up committing 20 turnovers.
Tulsa overcame a slow start by making 7-of-13 3-pointers in the first half to take a 37-16 lead. Rice had a better time on the offensive end in the second half but got no closer than the final deficit of 19.
Tulsa used a 13-0 run to erase an early 7-6 deficit. Parker had three baskets, Swanson hit a 3 and Johnson a layup in that spurt. After Rice cut the lead to 21-14, TU went on an 11-0 run that included two more 3-pointers by Swanson to lead 32-14.
Swanson, who had not scored more than five points since injuring an ankle three games ago, made all four of his 3-point tries.
