Softball Players Earn Individual and Team Academic Honors

Senior Brandi McGuire was one of four Golden Hurricane softball players to be named to the NFCA All-Academic Scholar list.

Tulsa, Okla. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has released its list of top academic teams and student-athletes for the 2001-02 school year. Four players from The University of Tulsa as well as the Golden Hurricane earned spots on the lists. Senior Christy Watkins led the TU individuals, who also included junior Brandi McGuire along with freshmen Lindsey Dyer and Holly Reynolds.

As a team, the Golden Hurricane posted a 3.226 grade point average. Its GPA ranked the Hurricane 25th nationally. The four players to make the list for TU were the most in the program's 10 seasons. TU Head Coach James Pinkerton has had seven players honored by the NFCA over the past two seasons. In the previous eight seasons, only four players have been named to the list.

The academic record is just one of 62 records set by the 2002 Golden Hurricane softball team. The golden Hurricane set new highs in 17 different single game categories, seven single-season individual categories, 24 single-season team categories and 13 individual career categories. The Hurricane finished 2002 with a school best 48-16 record.
