Tulsa, Okla. - Two members of The University of Tulsa softball team earned spots on the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI Softball Team. Junior Brandi McGuire was named to the first team, while fellow junior Danielle Olsen was named to the second team.
A Tulsa native, McGuire owns a 3.92 grade point average majoring in accounting. The infielder was a first team All-WAC selection last season as a utility player. This season, McGuire is batting at a .268 clip, with eight doubles and three home runs.
By earning a spot on the first team, McGuire is eligible for the Academic All-American ballot later this month.
A native of Boulder, Colo., Olsen is a finance major with a 3.60 grade point average. The infielder has started every game for the past two seasons at second base for the Golden Hurricane. She is third on the team in hitting with a .296 average and second in hits with 56. She needs only one at-bat to break the school record for at-bats in a single season. She is also one of two players to have recorded 100 putouts and 100 assists this season.
