Monroe, La. - Five players off The University of Tulsa softball team earned all-tournament honors at the ULM-Mardi Gras Classic, helping the Golden Hurricane take home the team title. TU defeated host Louisiana-Monroe in the championship game, 1-0, on Sunday night.
After having to be postponed on Saturday, due to rain, the tournament concluded Sunday night as snow started to fall.
In the championship game, Tulsa scored its lone run in the top of the third when sophomore Holly Reynolds scored on a double steal. Five different Hurricane players recorded hits, with senior Crissy Strimple and freshman Katie Torres posted doubles. Freshman Maren Genow picked up her fourth win of the season and combined for her third shutout of the year. She struck out five batters while allowing only one hit in 4.2 innings of work. Sophomore Ami Day came in to releive Genow to pick up her first save of the season.
In its second game of the day, the Hurricane fell behind 5-0 to Southeastern Louisiana before mounting a comeback. Back-to-back homeruns by Strimple and fellow senior Danielle Olsen were not enough as TU lost, 5-3. Reynolds had a three-for-three performance, in addition to Olsen and Strimple's fireworks.
In the first game of the day, the Hurricane defeated its second consecutive post-season team in as many games. Tulsa defeated Auburn, 5-0 by banging out 12 hits. Strimple and Olsen both posted three hits, and combined for three runs and two RBI to lead the Hurricane attack.
