Charlottesville, Va. - The University of Tulsa softball team won the consolation championship at Virginia's Hoo's Who Invitational on Sunday, with a 6-0 victory over Robert Morris. The Hurricane pounded out double-digit hits for the second consecutive game and for the eighth time this season.

For the fourth time in the tournament, TU scored first. It was also the third consecutive game, that TU scored in the first inning. Sophomore Stephanie Sliepen tripled to right center and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Hurricane picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Following a leadoff single by freshman Katie Torres, senior Brandi McGuire reached base via a single to right field. Freshman Julie Shafer hit a one-out triple, again to right center, to score McGuire.

Tulsa extended the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, as three of TU's first four batters singled to load the bases with one out. Junior Heather Hiar, who led off the innig with a single, scored from third on a wild pitch. After a Torres walk, sophomore Stacey Walkingstick was hit by a pitch that sent senior Danielle Olsen home. A McGuire single up the middle closed out the TU scoring as Torres and Crissy Strimple scored.

The Golden Hurricane improve to 21-12 on the year. Tulsa now returns home before traveling to Stillwater, Okla., on Wednesday (Mar. 26) to face the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State in a single game. TU's road swing will conclude on Saturday, Mar. 29, as the Hurricane concludes the week in Kansas City, Mo., to face the Kangaroos of UMKC. The non-conference double-header is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
