Kansas City, Mo. - The University of Tulsa softball team closed out the week with a pair of non-conference wins over UMKC on Saturday afternoon at Adair Park in Kansas City. The Golden Hurricane won the first game in extra innings4-2, before winning the second game 8-0 in a run-rule shortened contest.

In the opener, UMKC took a 2-0 lead on Lindsay Kendrick's two-out, two-run double off sophomore Lindsey Dyer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dyer allowed three hits in five-plus innings of work before being relieved by freshman Maren Genow.

UMKC freshman Jenny Schade allowed seven hits and five walks in five and two-thirds innings, but avoided major trouble until the top of the fifth. After getting two ground ball outs to start the inning, Schade yielded a double to senior Danielle Olsen and an infield single to senior Crissy Strimple. Freshman Katie Torres was hit by a pitch before sophomore Stacey Walkingstick smacked a double to the gap in left-center field to tie the game at 2-2.

Both teams went to the bullpen in the sixth, as Lindsey Davis relieved Schade in the top half of the inning. Davis entered with two out and two runners on, but ended the threat by striking out Olsen. In the bottom of the inning, Genow relieved Dyer after Katie Wiberg opened the inning with a single. Genow ended the threat, and both pitchers cruised until the ninth.

Davis (5-10) walked Strimple and Walkingstick before senior Brandi McGuire's game-winning two-run double. Genow (11-3) allowed a leadoff single to Jessica Clarke to start the ninth. Clarke advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch. However, Genow stranded Clarke there by retiring Kendrick and Becky Burger to end the game.

The nightcap belonged to Tulsa from the onset. UMKC sophomore Kari Thurman (0-1) made her first start of the season, and the Golden Hurricane scored single runs in each of the first two innings. Tulsa took control by tallying three runs off Thurman in the third. Strimple and McGuire each delivered RBI doubles in the inning. McGuire's two-bagger gave her 10 on the season and 34 for her career. She surpassed the previous record of 33 doubles in a career set by Angela Fuller (1995-99)

Meanwhile, Ami Day (9-6) shut down the Kangaroos by tossing a two-hit shutout. Day struck out just two, but was in control throughout, allowing only clean singles by Brandy Tanner and Lindsay Bauer.

Tulsa improved to 23-13 this season, while UMKC dropped to 5-21. The Golden Hurricane is now 11-0 all-time against the Kangaroos.
