Tulsa's Parker Named Third-Team Academic All-American

Stamford, Conn. - University of Tulsa junior guard Jason Parker was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America third-team as announced today. Parker has maintained a 3.57 grade point average in management information systems.
Parker has started all 27 games this year, and is averaging 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He leads Tulsa in scoring, assists and steals and has scored in double-figures in 22 games. Parker has led Tulsa in scoring 10 times, assists 14 times and steals 14 times this year. He had a career-best 33 points earlier this season against Louisiana Tech, and scored 30 points against Wichita State.
In his career, Parker has 39 double-figure scoring games and has averages of 8.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals.
To be eligible for the team, players must possess at least a 3.20 overall grade point average and be a starter or top reserve. Parker was selected as a first-team Verizon All-District VI performer earlier this month.
In the last eight seasons, Parker is the 21st Hurricane student-athlete to earn Verizon Academic All-America honors. Tulsa's last Verizon Academic All-American for basketball was Michael Ruffin in the 1998-99 season. He was a first team selection.
