Box Score

Tulsa, Okla. - The Bluejays of Creighton University utilized six Golden Hurricane fielding errors to the maximum, defeating The University of Tulsa, 8-1, to conclude the Embassy Suites-Tulsa Invitational.

While temperatures dipped below prime softball conditions, dipping into the low-40s at gametime, both coaches and teams agreed that the game needed to be played. After Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Creighton really got hot. The Bluejays reeled off eight unanswered runs in the final four stanzas of the game.

The Hurricane scored when sophomore Walkingstick led off the bottom of the second with a double to left center. She scored on an infield hit by fellow sophomore Holly Reynolds.

Creighton opened the top of the fourth inning on fire as the first two batters reached on singles. Another hit and two Hurricane errors later, CU enjoyed its first lead of the day at 4-1. The Bluejays added four more insurance runs in the top half of the seventh inning for the final margin. When the smoke and dust cleared, the Bluejays had scored eight runs on seven hits, with six TU errors.

Walkingstick posted two hits for Tulsa, including the aforementioned double. Reynolds and senior Danielle Olsen also recorded hits for TU. Sophomore pitcher Ami Day pitched 6.1 innings for the Hurricane striking out five CU batters and not allowing an earned run. Freshman Maren Genow pitched the final two outs of the seventh inning.
