Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa freshman Maren Genow has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the week for the week of April 7-13, 2003.
Genow, a freshman from Moore, Okla., struck out four Fresno State batters and allowed only three hits in 10 innings of work against the Bulldogs. She recorded her sixth shutout of the season with a 1-0 defeat over Fresno State. Genow's only run allowed on the week was an unearned run against San Jose State in a 3-1 Tulsa victory. She helped lead the Golden Hurricane to its first sweep of Fresno State and a 4-2 WAC record.
Other pitcher of the week nominees included: Jamie Southern, Fresno State; Melissa Coogan, Hawai`i; and Marla Pinkston, Louisiana Tech.
Tulsa will conclude its current home stand on Tuesday night with a non-conference game against Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls and Hurricane were originally scheduled to play on April 8th, however the game was postponed a week for better weather conditions. This week's game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex on the TU campus. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth.
