Box Score

Tulsa, Okla. - As the saying goes... "Every dog has it's day." Unfortunately, for five Oklahoma seniors, Tulsa's day came on their final home game. A crowd of 714 at the OU Softball Complex witnessed the Golden Hurricane's first win over the Sooners, 5-4 on Monday night.

Tulsa scored first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Senior Brandi McGuire opened the inning with a walk. Following a Stacey Walkingstick sacrifice, McGuire stole third, and eventually scored after freshman Kelly Miller singled to center field. Miller advanced to second on a walk by Ashlea Montgomery, while freshman Julie Shafer loaded the bases on an error by the pitcher. Miller would then score on a fielder's choice by Heather Hiar.

The Sooners would tie the score in the bottom of the third inning. Following a pair of groundouts, Kristin Vesely singled down the leftfield line. Senior Erin Evans then tripled, scoring Vesely. Evans then scored on a wild pitch for the tying tally.

The score would remain tied at 2-2 until the sixth inning when the teams combined for five runs. Walkingstick opened the TU half with a walk, before being sacrificed to second base. A single by Montgomery would give TU runners at the corners with only one out. Walkingstick would score on a wild pitch, moving Montgomery to second. An error by OU All-American Kelli Braitsch allowed Montgomery to score and Shafer to advance to second base. Following a sacrifice by Hiar, Shafer would score on the Sooner's second wild pitch of the inning.

Oklahoma threatened in bottom of the sixth as Heather Scaglione led off with a walk. Lori Shimasaki then pinch ran for Scaglione, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter April Valdez doubled, to score Shimasaki. Valdez would later score on a two-out single by Erin Evans. However, that would conclude the evening's scoring.

Sophomore Ami Day picks up her 14th win on the season to improve to 14-11 in the complete game victory. Freshman Nicole Denes was saddled with her first loss of the season. Senior Crissy Strimple posted two of TU's six hits. Tonight's contest was the 31st game in which Tulsa recorded the same number or more hits than its opponent. The Hurricane has won 27 of those games.

Tulsa (32-23), who lost to OU 8-0 before a crowd of 923 just a week earlier, will return to the friendlier confines of the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex to conclude its home schedule on Friday. The Hurricane will host a four-game series with Nevada, starting with a doubleheader on Friday night at 6 p.m. TU's Senior Day will be Saturday evening, when the Hurricane and the Wolf Pack face off at 4 p.m.
