Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa softball team got a shot in the arm Thursday when senior designated player Brandi McGuire was named to the Verizon Academic All-District VI First Team. This makes the second consecutive season that McGuire has earned a first-team honor.

The Union High School product has a 3.92 grade point average in accounting. She is one of only two native Oklahomans on either of the all-district first or second teams this season.

Having started 57 of TU's 59 games this season, McGuire is batting at a .290 clip, third best on the team. She currently leads the team in doubles with 13. Earlier this season, McGuire broke the school record for doubles in a career. She now has 35 twin-baggers during her four seasons at TU.

As a member of the district's first-team, McGuire is now eligible for the Academic All-American ballot. The All-American ballot will be voted on later this month.

To be selected for the Verizon Academic All-District Team the nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. She must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the school. She must have also played in at least 50-percent of the squad's contest.

The sixth district is comprised of schools from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
